CLUBS ONLINE 2010 Summer Herds Competition Results

THE BORDER & Lakeland Summer herd competition was held from 26th -28th July. Entries were down slightly on the previous year but the quality of stock was by no means less. Our judge, visited 12 herds looking at the overall herds as well as individual cows, heifers, progeny groups & stock bulls. There were also classes for production only. The competition was sponsored by QLF Ltd suppliers of liquid feeds and additives. The Judge, Ed Griffiths from South Yorkshire said how much he had enjoyed his visit especially to some of the large herds where management was especially good. Summer Meeting & AGM

THE CENTRAL Counties Summer Meeting and 2011 AGM was held on the 27th August. Mr Adrian Covington, Heygates retired after his two years as President. Mr John Sears, Eggington was duly elected as President. One new committe member was elected which was Mr. Richrd Sears. The present chairman Mr Roger Steeples, Cramar stands down at the next committee meeting, as is the custom when a new Chairman and Vice Chairman are elected. Mrs Pauline Claridge was again elected as Treasurer. Mrs Marie Walkden gave an excellent report on the activities of the young members. There being no other business the speaker Mr Anthony Wills, Willsbro was introduced by Mr Roger Steeples. A Mad Cornishman was the title used by Anthony to introduce his talk given to a packed room of Holstein breeders and enthusiasts. A superb presentation was given which detailed the growth of the Willsbro Herd from 1976 to today. Anthony kept us enthralled with photographs and details of how the farm grew in size to its present day 1000 milking cows together with the partridge shoot. The infinite attention to every detail has resulted in an exceptionally well run family business. Richard Linnell gave a vote of thanks but the meeting continued on informally with Anthony discussing and answering questions with those present while enjoying a welcome buffet. Dianne Steeples

ABOVE David Hodgson, Wormanby collects the Edward Pattison Memorial Trophy as Champion herd and club representative in the 2010 Premier Pedigree Herd.
