(Riverdane) and Andrew Jones (Rossett) and they placed both classes with the polish you might expect from two such experienced cowmen. When the results were calculated, it was the Yorkshire Club that emerged as the team winner, helped by the performance of their juniors Frances Griffiths and Jenny Hardcastle, who finished first and fourth respectively in their class. In the senior section, Northern Ireland’s Andrew Patton finished on top of the pile ahead of Ross Murray from East Midlands in second. Yorkshire’s Frances Griffiths also won the prize for the best overall set of reasons.

These kept both participants and spectators entertained all afternoon, as team after team became increasing wet but clean thanks to the plentiful supply of water and washing up liquid. The afternoon was capped by a supply of hot drinks plus pancakes and ice cream and will remain in the memory for some time to come. Winners of the Knockout title were Scotland South, who won a tug-of-war pull off against Lancashire, Michael Yates was the best sheaf tosser while Danny Reed was bell donging
