by Marc Ayotte Take the preeminent offense in Division III girls’ basketball, throw in the team with the second worst offense-to-defense point differential, have them run around in the Cougar’s Den for an hour and half, and what do you get? A cake walk of a home finale on Senior Night for the Lady Cougars of Campbell High School. The 15-1 and Division III-leading Cougars treated the Campbell crowd, especially the Lady seniors’ parents, to a lopsided, 59-27 win over the ‘ramshackle’ offense of visiting Raymond High on Friday, February 11. hundred seconds or so saw both offenses playing ineptly, leading to goose eggs on both sides of the scoreboard. It wasn’t until two minutes in that CHS registered a crooked number in the score books, taking a commanding 2-0 lead. So much for the mismatch of the season. But soon, probability and statistics would once again rule the hardwood floors. Led by senior guard Kristen Hrubowchak, the Cougars proceeded to score the next 18 points and effectively pitched a first-quarter shutout on their way to a 20-0 lead. As one who follows sports and has potentially been witness to the lopsided scenarios that occasionally occur, you can imagine the remaining 24 minutes of action didn’t have too much pretty to offer. On the bright side, Raymond, through the first minute-plus of the second quarter, outscored Campbell 2-0, as they were able to register their first hoop of the contest. Only two more Raymond hoops would ensue in the first half, however, as the visiting Rams found themselves hopelessly behind at the half by a score of 35-6. Systematically, CHS continued their dominance throughout the second half. With Coach Flynn platooning his bench throughout the second half, he gave his seniors a chance at receiving the proverbial ‘standing O’ from the hometown crowd with about two minutes remaining in the game. evening, the junior Cougars used a similar 25-point, first-quarter outburst on their way to a 51-27 drubbing of the visiting Rams. Brianna Hardy had a tremendous offensive game, as she led her team to victory by pouring in 20 points on the night.
