Helen Mary (Kaminski) Chmieleski Helen Mary (Kaminski) Chmieleski, 86, of Salem,
died February 8, 2011, at Salemhaven Nursing Home in Salem. She was born and educated in Lawrence, MA, the daughter of the late Walter and Mary (Fal) Kaminski and graduated from Lawrence High School. She was a resident of Salem for over 60 years. Helen was a retired Tax Adjuster for the Internal
Revenue Service in Andover, MA, where she worked for 27 years. She was a member of St. Joseph Church in Salem, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, the Salem VFW Post 8546 Ladies Auxiliary and the Salem Senior Center. She was also a member of the Golden Agers, the Sound-A-Bouts Fan Club, the Salem Visiting Nurses Association, and the Happy Travelers of Dracut, MA. Helen was also a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 63 in Salem. The family of Helen would like to thank everyone at Salemhaven for the care, kindness, friendship, and compassion they showed to Helen. She was predeceased by her husband, Woodrow Chmieleski; and her three brothers, John, Edward and Paul Kaminski. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Susan and her husband Ralph Medina of Manchester; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, February 11, at 10 a.m. at Saints Mary and Joseph Parish at St. Joseph Church, Salem. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem. Francis M. DeCesare
Francis M. DeCesare died February 12, 2011, at Salemhaven Nursing Home in Salem. Frank was born February 6, 1923, in Lawrence, MA, the son of Dr. Nicandro and Ada (Moulton) DeCesare. Frank is survived by his wife of 43 years, Judith (Croston) DeCesare; a daughter, Jane-Ellen Bishoff of Traverse City, MI; two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He also leaves a sister, Beverly Nassar and her husband, James of Haverhill, MA, and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his brother, Donald H. DeCesare. Frank was self-employed as a land surveyor for many years and
was retired from the Town of Salem Engineering Department. Frank was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and served in the occupation Army in Germany. In his younger days, he owned and flew his own plane and enjoyed flying around New England. Private graveside services will be in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s

Arline E. (Nadeau) Godin Arline E. (Nadeau) Godin, 90, of Salem, died
February 13, 2011, at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, MA. She was born in Lawrence, MA, where she grew up and attended schools. She was a resident of Salem for the past 34 years. Mrs. Godin was an assembler for Western Electric in North Andover, MA. She enjoyed walking, reading, and spending time with her family.
She was predeceased by her husband, Alyre Godin; her parents,
John and Philomene (Bergeron) Nadeau; and her sister, Rita Cormier. She is survived by her three sons, Ronald and his wife Elaine of Moultonborough, Gerald and his wife Barbara Godin of Methuen, MA, and Garry and his wife JoAnn Godin of Derry; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one niece. There are no calling hours. A memorial Mass will be celebrated in the spring at St. Matthew’s Church, Windham. Memorial donations may be made to the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, 360 North Avenue, Haverhill, MA 01830. Thomas P. ‘Tommy’ Gates Thomas P. “Tommy” Gates, 56, of Salem, died
February 10, 2011, at his home in Salem. He was born in Winthrop, MA, grew up and was educated in Salem, where he graduated from Salem High School in 1972. He was a life-long resident of Salem. Tommy was a writer for the Salem Observer and the Salem Community Patriot. He was an avid sports
fan, especially high school sports. He was involved with the Salem Men’s Softball League. Tommy’s life revolved around sports. He loved playing and writing about all the kids in Salem. He also enjoyed umpiring little league baseball. He was predeceased by his father, John P. Gates. He is survived by his mother, Jeannie (McDonald) Gates of Nashua; sisters, Bonnie and her husband Frankie Vancoppenolle of Salem, and Donna Gates of Nashua; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. A funeral service was held February 14 at the Douglas and

Ethel M. (Messenger) Fairweather
Ethel M. (Messenger) Fairweather, 80, of Huntley, IL, formerly of Salem, died February 9, 2011, at the Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL. She was born in Newton, MA, where she grew up and attended
schools. She later graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Southern New Hampshire University. She was a resident of Illinois for the past seven years, formerly of Salem, where she lived for 45 years.
Mrs. Fairweather was a retired social worker for the State of New Hampshire. She was a member of St. David’s Episcopal Church in Salem. She was active in the Salem Democratic Party and ran for State Representative. She was active with the Greater Salem Caregivers and with SARC. She loved traveling, but most of all her family was everything to her, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Richard Fairweather of Huntley, IL; daughter, Debbie and her husband Tom Moquin of Hampshire, IL; brother, Robert Kiley of Needham, MA; sister, Noreen Knight of East Bridgewater, MA; grandchildren, Christopher and Jessica Moquin of Illinois; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 18, at 11 a.m. at St.
David’s Episcopal Church, Salem. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem.

system, working at the North Salem and Woodbury Schools. She was a member of St. David’s Episcopal Church in Salem, the Salem Lions Club, and a member of the Sound-A-Bouts Polka Club. She enjoyed baking, jigsaw puzzles, polka dancing, bowling, bingo at Foxwoods, and Newfound Lake. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph G. Mawson; and her brothers, Raymond and Robert Hyde. She is survived by her sons, Bruce and his wife Donna Mawson
of Fitchburg, MA, and Richard and his wife Susan Mawson of Derry; daughter, Brenda and her husband Jerry Hyland of Pelham; sister, Janet Turner of Salem; three grandchildren, Jason, Joseph, and Mary; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held February 16 at the Douglas and
