Garbuio has also worked with Urbacon before but he said this building was different than others he has built with them.
“Over the past decade we’ve had several projects with Urbacon,” he said. “I will say that this is probably one of the first ones that have been of a multi-storey nature.” He said the use of steel also helped the building to be constructed much more rapidly than it would have other- wise.
“Anytime when the owner is looking to put such a cap- ital investment in place, they want to get operating as quickly as possible. There’s no doubt that steel is the way to go so you can start getting a return on that space,” said Gar- buio.

Dube has been involved in constructing many buildings in the Greater Toronto area. While this one, like the others, is structurally sound and aesthetically pleasing, there are a few characteristics that stand out in his memory. “One of the unique things is that the building was de- signed out of structural steel. Level four and up is structural steel except for the elevator cores and the stairwells. That’s pretty unique from other buildings I’ve done,” he said. Another reason the building is so distinctive is that, in the future, it will be attached to a new GO Transit pedes- trian link, which will allow passengers to walk over the 401 to the Pickering Town Centre. The link will attach the Pick- ering GO Station to the new building and, as a result, the area should become a transportation hub. In fact, the pathway will link to the building’s parking garage, making it very easy for future employees of busi- nesses in the building to get to work.
“The parking garage will be a little bit tricky when the new link from the 401 is going to come and connect to our building,” said Dube. “That design is not complete but we’re going to have to remove the glass and everything to do a proper connection and it’s going to have to be all sealed
Congratulations to Urbacon. We are proud to be part of the
