High-quality decorative festive lighting concepts
When it comes to festive decorations shopping centres demand excellent lighting coverage, value for money and, above all, concepts which enhance
their brand positioning and the customer experience at Christmas time.
MK Illumination understands the business challenges facing shopping centres and can assist in creating a strong, vibrant brand image that appeals to customers. Because of their extensive knowledge of the shopping centre sector MK Illumination enjoys an enviable reputation as one of the leading providers of bespoke festive lighting and decoration displays throughout the world. MK’s ability to offer excellent value for money
from its displays has paid dividends over the past year as shopping centres have continued their recovery from the recession and, in some cases, have slashed their budgets for Christmas displays. In this time the company has excelled
with new clients including The Light in Leeds, Christopher Place in St Albans and Idlewells Shopping Centre in Sutton-in-Ashfield. MK Illumination also installed one of the
largest schemes in the UK in Manchester City Centre, where over 380,000 LED lights and 55,080 metres of light were used to decorate the city. “We don’t see ourselves purely as a company
that provide lights, but rather specialists who assist shopping centres in developing their brand during the peak selling season of the year,” says Paul Dove, Sales Director at MK Illumination UK. “Our success is built around our ability to offer clients more lighting coverage for their budget. Because we manufacture our own products rather than buy them from third parties we are able to pass on the savings to our clients.” The Darwen firm is part of the MK Illumination
Group, which has its headquarters in Innsbruck, Austria and operates in 21 international markets. Each business is run independently but is able to draw on the international experience of the
entire group and support from its state-of-the-art production facility in Slovakia. As well as exceptional customer service, MK Illumination also credits its success to the continued development of its creative concepts. The company’s entire product range features
‘Premium’ LEDs that are specially manufactured for MK. They offer distinctive advantages over cheaper alternatives such as low power consumption, high luminosity, consistent colouration and longer operational life. One of MK’s most significant developments has been a unique warm-white LED bulb which it developed with one of the world’s most renowned LED lighting manufacturer. Despite its considerably low energy consumption, the LED combines energy efficiency and high brightness with a consistent warm-white tone that is striking similar to that of a traditional light bulb. “This is the first warm-white LED bulb in our industry to match the colour and distribution of light created by a traditional light bulb,” says Paul Dove. “Warm-white is the latest trend in festive lighting because of its welcoming golden glow, and the consistency of its colour tone ensures a spectacular overall effect when used throughout a display.”
“A further trend, especially for outdoor
schemes, is brilliant white. This colour is perfect for creating magical winter landscapes that are charming, majestic, powerful and pure. Brilliant light attracts people’s attention and manages to hold it because of its fabulously unique colour tone.” To complement its growing product line the
company has launched a new Organic range of motifs for 2011 which have been constructed using a sustainable material that is 100% biodegradable, waterproof and UV resistant. The new Organic range has considerable
environmental benefits as the proportion of petrochemical sources used in the production process is significantly reduced and the net effect on the planet’s CO2 levels is markedly better than with standard polymers. As well as being eco-friendly the new range
provides a stunning ‘day and night effect’. This is made possible by a specific mix of materials which produces an attractive surface. “When you consider that lighting schemes
increase the dwelling time of people whilst they are shopping, it is important that Christmas decorations look equally as good during daylight hours as they do during the evening. The organic materials we have sourced enable our designers to be even more imaginative with our concepts as we can inject more colour into our schemes during the daytime,” says Paul Dove.
“Environmental issues are an increasing
consideration when designing and producing commercial Christmas decoration schemes and at MK Illumination we are always looking to develop products with stronger green credentials.”
