It had been a great run for the Alvirne boys’ basketball team as they had won their last four in a row, including defeating a highly ranked Salem squad this past Friday, February 4, by the score of 38-33, bringing their record to 4-6 overall. Lancers Stop Broncos’ Win Streak at Four


the blocks fast and cruised to a 17-point victory. Caleb Donnelly had a great game with 25 points, six rebounds, six steals, and one assist, followed by Tony Beaulieu with 12 points, six rebounds, and four steals. Pat Nager added 11 points, two steals, one rebound, and one assist, and Jimmy Tomaswick added 10 points and eight rebounds. On Friday night, the boys were patient and focused as they defeated Salem on the road, 38- 33. Jon Baldwin, Tomaswick, and Beaulieu hit clutch free throws down the stretch to seal the victory for the Broncos. First-year Head Coach Seth Garon feels that “the kids are playing really well right now and we continue to focus on defense and limiting the amount of turnovers.”

At the end of each of the first three quarters, there was never more than one point separating the teams. The Broncos turned it on in the third quarter for the five-point victory. Beaulieu had 14 points and three steals, and Donnelly added 14 points (including four three-point shots) and eight rebounds. Tyler Livingston added six points (both three- pointers) and Tomaswick added three points and eight rebounds. Unfortunately, Londonderry put an end to the win streak with a 55-46 victory over the Broncos on Tuesday, February 8. Alvirne clung to a one-point lead after one quarter of play and managed to extend that to two points at the half, but because of a technical foul called,

the beginning of the second half started off tied at 22. Londonderry outscored Alvirne 14-10 in the third quarter and pulled away in the fourth for the victory. The loss drops the Broncos record to 4-7 on the season. Donnelly had 20 points, one rebound, and two steals, followed by Beaulieu with 13 points, five rebounds, and two steals. Tomaswick added seven points, six rebounds, and one steal for the Broncos. The junior varsity squad

also dropped their contest by the score of 42-32. Alvirne has seven games remaining on the season, with home games on February 18 against Spaulding and February 22 against Pinkerton. Alvirne is fighting for a playoff spot in the NHIAA Division 1 playoffs.
