An installation by Matteo Thun and Antonio Rodriguez invites us to re-evaluate the beauty of the kitchen in its natural, most basic form...

MAURIZIO RIVA

and Matteo Thun have long shared a

passion for wood in its most natural and primordial form, so it only stands to reason that their joint kitchen project should also be largely made of wood. It is designed to be as primordial as possible: with a place for fire, a place for water and a place for eating. The materials used for this unusual project – entitled La Cucina

- include re-used American red oak from the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) and kitchen furniture from Riva 1920. La Cucina is a homage to Mediterranean food and drink, and an

appreciation of the many qualities of wood as an interior furniture material. The project also enlisted the help of other partners to bring their own particular expertise to bear, each with their own sustainable credentials. Elements of the kitchen recycle the American red oak and walnut lumber used in the Wooden Beacons installation at Milan Design Week in April last year, which was a joint venture with Matteo Thun, RIVA, AHEC and Italian fashion house Marni. designer
