SWEET SCENTED HAPPINESS WITH PERFUMERS GUILD

J

ohn Bailey‘s scented business card describes him as an artisan perfumer, independent

fragrance and sensory consultant, scent historian, and founder of The Perfumers Guild which he established in 1981 when he lived in Abbots Langley. It is always interesting meeting John, who‘s

passion for scents and aromas, tastes and textures, is a fascinating story of a lifetime‘s professional career in the mainly anonymous international aroma trades industry, where scientists, chemists, perfumers and flavourists work often with great secrecy, developing the finished goods with designer and own label retail brands to give and enhance product appeal. The use of aromatic ingredients in a recipe or

formula often play a key role in the success of the product, think for a moment of the cool fresh tingling taste of peppermint in toothpaste or after dinner mint – the scent of freshly laundered bed clothes – and of course your favourite perfume, a cocktail of aromatic essences. Scented plants, aromatic herbs and spices, give

pleasure and excite the senses, stimulate memories and can promote healing, John‘s career started as an apprentice in the laboratories of a manufacturing chemist, distiller and druggist, where he learnt the art and science of formulating and compounding pills, potions and perfumes. His apprenticeship continued over many years

with some renowned growers of aromatic raw materials and their essential oils, fragrance and flavour houses before he seized the opportunity to work independently. John‘s commissions and consultancy assignments keeps him constantly busy at home or overseas.

HOSS John‘s exclusive niche English perfumery, The

Perfumers Guild, promotes the art and creativity of limited edition and bespoke scents for a strictly private clientele – a growth business as many people seek individuality in a mass market of considerable mediocrity, consumers confused with well over 500 new fragrances launched each year! What is Niche Perfumery? – an alternative to

the mass production of large multinational brands, John‘s passion since establishing The Perfumers Guild is to create scents of luxury and style or a bespoke fragrance at an affordable price, without the need for costly marketing and advertising, a shared joy for a growing niche of perfume connoisseurs preferring to purchase directly from the scent-maker. An association and friendship over many years

with the talented Abbots Langley photographer Hoss has enabled John to have excellent product and personal images to promote himself and his perfumes – Hoss‘s photographs are a ‗must have‘ for portraying a professional touch – a picture is worth a thousand words!
