Lisa Stanton Earns 2010 World Championship by Kelly Bowers

Well it seems my mother may have been right when she said “practice makes perfect”. After more than 35 years of rid- ing, and about 25 years of rein- ing, forty six year old Lisa Stan- ton has just finished an incredi- ble year in 2010. Lisa started

riding as an 8 year old, first on Jumping and Hunter Under Sad- dle horses, then turning to West- ern Pleasure horses. Then, in the mid 80’s, Lisa started reining with her husband Tim, and began showing more seriously about fifteen years ago.

In 2010, Lisa and her stal- lion, Gun Dealer earned two

impressive titles. She was named Congress Ltd Open Champion and by year end, earned the NRHA Ltd Open World Championship. Lisa explains “This has been an amazing year for me. I started showing Gun Dealer in August and finished on November 8th. We traveled from Ontario to Quebec, Michigan, Ohio, Ten- nessee, North Carolina, New York. The world championship is a real difficult title to earn. There is lots of travel, planning and organizing over the year - And really tough competition, other talented people determined to win the title.”

The equine champion is Gun Dealer, her 9 Year Old AQHA/APHA stallion. Lisa and Tim bought Gun Dealer (Yankee) in the fall of 2006. Tim showed him for two years in derbies and made the Canadi- an Finals to qualify for WEG, but he didn’t go. Luckily, this meant that LIsa could ride him instead and it made for an awe- some pairing which paid off.

Gun Dealer has won $40,000. with numerous wins.

Lisa and Tim Stanton run StoneRidge Farm, a lesson and training business in Pickering, ON that focuses on reining. They teach riding and reining from beginners to advanced. They also have a small breeding business with two stallions - Gun Dealer (by Gunner x Docs Peppy Oak RB) and 6 year old, Chex To Bee Cashed (by Nu Chex To Cash out of Jays Sugar Bee Sting.) Both stallions stand to public and they breed a few of their own mares. They have about six babies each year on the farm. This year they are preparing some of Gun Dealer’s 3 year olds and look forward to showing them this year at the futurities.

Lisa will be recognized at a June awards banquet in Okla- homa City, OK in conjunction with the NRHA Derby. Her awards will include a champi- onship saddle, belt buckle and a well earned trophy.
