New Year, New You!

elcome to 2011! The New Year is a clean slate, the turning of a new leaf and a fresh start, so why not make the most of it? Have you made any resolutions or set any goals for the year ahead? If so, good for you! Since one of the most common New Year’s resolutions is to lose weight and improve fitness, we’ve provided some tips for sticking with that resolution. Here’s to making 2011 your best—and healthiest—year ever!
Weight loss success is NOT measured by the pound
As you undertake a fitness or healthy-eating plan, don’t stress if the scales don’t show a rapid decrease. Weight loss is connected to many

different parameters and it can take time to lose pounds in a healthy way. So, instead of focusing on weight measurements, nervously checking the scale each day, instead focus instead on how your clothes fit over specified time periods. Are they getting looser month by month? Good for you! If not, maybe it’s time to re-evaluate your weight-loss plan. Also stay attuned to how you feel about yourself. A good self-image will keep you motivated through any weight-loss plateaus. Measuring yourself, rather than weighting yourself, is a good way to keep track of how much fat you are really losing. Be aware that your weight can fluctuate depending many factors: on how much you ate during that day, the time of the month, the type of exercise you have been doing, whether you are retaining water, and so
