There are many ways to increase HRV and heart coherence, and as a consequence to improve your health, with meditation and relaxation techniques being the most common.

Notice that when a person is in a state of coherence, the waveforms do not lose their variability (robustness of the peaks and valleys) but they do move from being erratic and rough to regular and smooth. That’s what coherence looks like—and it’s a state that has proven to dramatically affect health, making communication among major organs and physiological systems quicker and more accurate, lowering all manner of stress indicators, and boosting the immune system.


The great news is that not only can you become aware of your heart’s state of coherence, but you also can train your heart to be in a more coherence state. HeartMath has developed two tools to help you detect your level of HRV and heart coherence and to change them via a biofeedback response. One technology is computer-based; the other is a small handheld HRV monitor. They allow you to see your heart rhythm and coherence graphically, such as a change from a red to a green light. There are many ways to increase HRV and heart coherence, and as a consequence to improve your health, with meditation and relaxation techniques being the most common. Using these techniques, in only a few seconds you can begin to affect your heart’s coherence, improving communication among all your body systems.
