As we head into February I am sure that you are aware of al l the advertising in the shops a n d l o c a l p r e s s surrounding Valentines Day. Restaurants seem to be pushing especially hard to entice couples out for that special meal on February 14th

. Valentine Event

I am very pleased that the marriage team from St George’s have organised a special valentine event on Saturday 12th

February

at The Garden Kitchen. There is space for 25 couples who will not only enjoy coffee and cake and Dave Maylor on guitar, but also Rob Parsons (on DVD) imparting some very helpful tips for married couples. I look forward to sharing the evening with those who can be there and thanks to the Gardiners and the Maylors for organising it.

On the next morning (13th

) in Church Paul

Gardiner will continue to help us to think about important aspects of marriage.

The Importance of Love

Marriage of course is just one area of our lives, but love is something that needs to be worked out in the whole of our lives and the scr iptures constantly remind us how important love is.

Aspects of Love

As we continue to think about ‘Growing Disciples’ in 2011 and the command of Jesus to remain in His love (John 15:9) it will be good to spend our Sunday mornings in February thinking about aspects of love. Love is the garment that we should wear. Love is the giving up of our lives on behalf of others as Jesus did for us. Love is the most excellent way without which we are nothing. Love is the most important command both in regard to the Lord and to our neighbour.

The Fruit of the Spirit

I know that I need to be reminded of these things time and time again and that so often I fail to love as I ought. It is my prayer that the Holy Spirit will refresh us in the fruit of love as we take time to think and pray about it together.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen
