EDITOR’S WELCOME

WELCOME FROM THE EDITOR A

As this is being written, we are looking back on the past PGA TOUR year. There are plenty of memorable moments. First up is Jim Furyk, who won the season-long FedExCup points

competition with a dramatic victory in THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola. That win, plus two others, earned him his first Jack Nicklaus Award as the Player of the Year. The major championships produced

winners from four different countries: Phil Mickelson came through at the Masters Tournament, winning his third green jacket; Northern Ireland’s Graeme McDowell won the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach; South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen won the British Open at St. Andrews, and Germany’s Martin Kaymer won the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits. For good measure, South Africa’s Tim Clark won THE PLAYERS Championship. We cover these tournaments, and all the year’s other PGA TOUR events, in our comprehensive tournament previews. The Europeans edged the United

States in the Ryder Cup, and we look back at all the drama and preview this year’s Presidents Cup at Royal

Melbourne in Australia, the site of the only victory by the International team in this biennial team competition. In other features, we look at some of the places you might

consider for your next golf vacation. Some of them might surprise you, but the piece reflects just how truly international the game has become. We also examine the impact rapidly evolving technology is having on golf telecasts. The pictures just keep getting better. In addition, we study the success of the Nationwide Tour and the season-long Kodak Challenge, which made its debut in 2009. Finally, my column, “The Last Word” is about “The Kids” who burst on the PGA TOUR radar screen this past year. They have plenty of game— to put it mildly. To feature all this, we’ve lined up

some of the game’s most-respected writers and photographers. We think they helped us capture the true flavor of the PGA TOUR, and we hope you agree. Good luck to all of you in the coming year. ■
