Wyndham Championship T
he odds against Arjun Atwal winning last year’s Wyndham Championship were long to say the least.
For starters, he had to go through Monday qualifying
to even get in the field. Once he managed to clear that hurdle, he faced the reality that no qualifier had gone on to win in 24 years. Arjun Atwal broke through with his first PGA TOUR event with solid play throughout the tournament:
• Atwal finished first in Total Driving.
• Atwal led in Putts Per Round, with 27.25.
Atwal, who became the first native of India to win on TOUR. “Guys are going to be out there trying to secure their FedExCup spots or whatever. We’ve got nothing. I don’t have a card. I don’t have anything; just go out there and free-wheel it, and that’s what I did this week.”
