harlowchorus Visions of Eternity at St. John’s Epping
12th March Words by Mick Rumens
It was with the utmost regret that the decision to abandon our Carols by Candlelight concert was forced upon us so late at Thaxted. This was the fi rst occasion in our 35 year existence that the weather had taken such an unexpected toll on one of our concerts. I trust that any readers that had tickets for this event know that they can obtain a refund, both of ticket and any coach costs, on production of their ticket(s). Our booking staff have a list of all purchases should you have any enquiries.
With a large number of our members being unable to reach the venue, plus our brass ensemble also being ‘cut off’, not to mention the problems for all our potential audience, our organisers and the Thaxted Festival committee were left with no alternative. We hope to include much of this programme, which we had rehearsed so diligently and were looking forward to performing, in our 2011 Christmas programme.
We have three more concerts in this season ending mid July, and we begin with VISIONS of ETERNITY to be performed on Saturday 12th March at 7.30pm in St John’s Church, Epping. This programme covers a spectrum of inspirational music composed throughout the 17th to 21st centuries. The earliest is a motet by Schutz fi rst published in 1648, with the most recent being Sir John Tavener’s, Five Anthems from The Veil of the Temple, commissioned in 2003. Other items include Rheinberger’s Mass in E fl at, two items composed by Brahms and pieces by Weelkes, Stainer and Howells. This selection by our Musical Director, Alex Chaplin, will be as entertaining for chorus members to perform as for our audience to listen to.
We hope that our supporters will come along and make this a sell-out event to make up for the disappointment before Christmas.
Tickets: £14, concessions £11; under 16s £5. Available by post from Julia Dimon, Tel: 01277 362440 Email:
