Knights of Columbus Council 4442 of Salem will sponsor a Youth Free Throw Championship. All boys and girls ages 10 to 14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the Championship. The local competition will be held Sunday, January 30, from 6-8 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club of Salem. This is a free event for all participants. Throw Championship is sponsored annually, with winners progressing through local, district, and state competitions. International champions are announced by the Knights of Columbus international headquarters based on scores from the state- level competitions. All boys and girls 10 to 14 years old are eligible to participate and will compete in their respective age divisions. Last year, more than 223,000 sharpshooters participated in over 3,200 local competitions. All contestants on the local level are recognized for their participation in the event. Participants are required to furnish proof of age and written parental consent. submitted by Debra Getty The competitive team from Voter’s Gymnastics in Salem competed at the annual Winter Carnival Meet in Stratham hosted by Gymnastics at Brentwood Commons on Sunday, January 9. The girls had a great meet, with the Level 4 team placing sixth in the team competition. In their respective groups, there were many individual accomplishments as well. In the Level 6 competition, Ari Getty of Pelham placed 10th in the all-around (31.975), fifth on beam (8.5), fifth on floor (9.025), and seventh on vault (8.45). In the Level 5 competition, Cassidy Corbett


of Pelham placed first in the all-around (34.15), first on floor (9.05), second on beam (8.7), third on bars (8.4), and seventh on vault (8.0). Gina DiZazzo of Salem placed third in the all-around (33.6), second on bars (8.6), third on vault (8.35),

In the Level 4 competition, Sarah Caraccio of Salem placed fifth in the all-around (35.4), first on floor (9.2), fourth on bars (9.0), and fifth on beam (8.6). Paige Dame of Pelham placed eighth in the all-around (35.25), fourth on bars (9.05), eighth on beam (8.4), and ninth on floor (8.9). Emily D’Arcy of Salem placed fourth in the all-around (35.55), third on bars (9.1), third on beam (8.6), fourth on vault (9.15), and seventh on floor (8.7). Chrissy Milinazzo of Pelham placed fifth in the all-around (35.55), sixth on bars (8.9), seventh on beam (8.45), eighth on vault (9.175), and eighth on floor (9.025). Synchro Stars Teams Share Success


submitted by Head Coach Carola Mandeville A season of success continues for the Synchro Stars synchronized skating teams. On January 8 and 9 at the Colonial Classic held at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell, MA, the Beginner 1 team placed second in their division while the Beginner 3 team placed third. On January 22, at the Boston Synchronized Classic held at the New England


Sports Center in Marlborough, MA, the Beginner 3 team took first place, winning their division, while the Beginner 2 team placed second. Both teams are participants in the Eastern Synchronized Challenge Cup Series for the 2010-2011 skating season. As of January, both teams are in the top three for their division among the East Coast teams.

submitted by Ruth Licata The Brestyan’s Invitational is well known throughout the country, attracting many gyms in the New England area and beyond. Deciding to compete at this Invitational means sending in your fees and rosters to compete six months in advance. Brestyan’s Gymnastics is the home of Olympian and Winchester, MA native Alicia Sacramone, who visited Gym-Ken a few years ago just before the Olympics. The Level 4 team took home the third-place


banner. From Windham, Hanna Monahan took fifth on vault, beam, and floor, and fourth in the all-around; Taylor Maffeo took second on vault and sixth in the all-around; Delaney Cunningham scored third on vault and bars and fourth in the all-around; Sydney Baldridge scored fourth on vault; and Chrissy DePhamphilis scored fifth on bars, beam, and the all-around. From Salem, Caitlin McLaughlin scored 8.9 on


vault; Mary Gallo of Salem a 9.15 on bars; Kiana Roy scored 8.75 on beam; and Kylee Tommasi scored 9.2 on floor.


Level 5: Paige Butler of Windham won second place all-around in her age division with an 8.95 on beam and floor. Level 8: From Salem, Sarah Hale scored 8.70 on beam and 8.4 on floor, and Kadianne Tommasi scored 8.475 on vault and 8.9 on floor. The girls’ teams are coached by Amberlynn Gifford, Jennifer Corsetto, Nate Hicks, and Head Coach Ruth Licata.
