Sports Pelham~Windham Sports Jaguar Swimmers Continue to Improve

submitted by Rhonda Bleeker The Jaguars’ coed varsity swim team continued to improve on times in nearly all events at the recent meet hosted by Kearsarge Regional High School at the Colby-Sawyer pool on January 15. The men’s team competed against Concord (Division I) and Kearsarge Regional, Bow, Bishop Brady, and Stevens High Schools and the Derryfield School (all Division II). The women’s team competed against these schools, as well as Pembroke Academy and Fall Mountain High School. The meet was scored as a dual-meet, which means that each team is scored against each of the other schools separately. With many swimmers receiving personal bests in one or more of their individual races, the women’s team receiving team bests in the 400 freestyle relay, and the men’s team receiving a team best in the 400 freestyle and 200 medley relay, the teams had a very strong showing at the meet. Furthermore, every WHS swimmer was able to contribute to the scoring. Overall, the men’s team had three wins against Bishop Brady, Stevens, and the Derryfield School, and three losses to the remaining schools. The Women’s team scored wins against all eight teams it competed against! Relay-wise, the women’s 400 freestyle relay teams placed very well at this meet, with the team of Angela Bleeker, Julia Bushell, Meghan O’Connor, and Emily Matsco placing first with a team- best time of 4:04.17, and the team of Bethany Fennessey, Ornalin Anancharoenpakom, Meghan Boucher, and Lauren Clemons placing third. The women’s team of Bleeker, Matsco, O’Connor, and Bushell also placed first in the 200 medley relay. The men’s team of Christopher Gallo, James Baiguy, Ben Forster, and Kyle Carbonneau placed fourth in the 200 medley relay, and the team of Gallo, James Reicher, Forster, and Baiguy also placed fourth in the 400 freestyle relay. The 200 freestyle relay team of Brandon Driscoll, Carbonneau, Reicher, and Andrew Leclair placed fifth. For the Lady Jaguars, Bushell and O’Connor both placed first in both their individual events. Bushell swam the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle, with her time in the 50 free of 27.32 qualifying her for Division II NHIAA States. O’Connor swam the 100 backstroke

and 100 butterfly. Bleeker placed first in the 200 freestyle and second in the 100 backstroke, qualifying for States in the 100 back. Matsco improved on her States-qualifying times in both of her events, placing second in both the 100 breast with a time of 1:17.74 and the 100 free with a time of 59.02. Anancharoenpakom started out the day with a personal best in the 50 free. Fennessey received a personal best in the 100 fly, placing fourth in this event. Boucher persevered in the 200 free and 500 free to receive personal bests in both events, scoring eighth and fifth, respectively, in these events. Clemons also placed well in both her events, with an eighth-place and personal-best in the 100 breast and a sixth-place finish in the 200 IM. For the Men’s Jaguars, Baiguy continued to improve on his States- qualifying time in the 100 breast with a time of 1:14.91, placing third in this event. Leclair placed second for WHS in the 100 breast, scoring seventh. Reicher placed fourth in both the 200 free and the 100 free, and Driscoll placed eighth in the 100 free. In the 100 fly, Carbonneau placed fourth and Gallo placed fifth. In 100 back, Christopher placed third and Driscoll placed fourth. Baiguy and Carbonneau also placed fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 200 IM, with Baiguy receiving a personal best of 2:32.64 in this event.
