British Heart Foundation 50th Anniversary

THE British Heart Foundation was formed in 1961, so this year, 2011, is their 50th anniversary. Since that formation the charity has gone from strength to strength. Heart research in the intervening years has made it possible for many people who would have died from diseases of the heart and heart defects to live long and successful lives.

As a charity the Foundation still

receive no Government funding and rely totally on supporters and members of the public, so as this is a special year they want to make the biggest impact locally as possible and have various ideas and plans for events, which will take place throughout the year.

Can you help?

If you have ever held an event for the BHF, can you do it again this year?

If you have ever thought “I could hold an event for the Foundation” this is the year to do it. It need not be big or lavish, invite a few friends around for coffee, hold a small raffle, set up a cake stall, get an organisation which you are involved in to hold a fund-raising event or have a collection, open your garden to the public in the summer, sell some plants. Any event you organise can be supported by the Foundation and they would be very grateful for your help in making 2011 a super fund-raising year.

The bar will be open and there will be a raffle. Do come along and Wear Something Red. The choir always put on a good show, so get your tickets early to avoid disappointment. Last year local establishments took up the challenge of wearing something red, like Tavyside Health Centre in the photograph. It is a fun event and hopefully more establishments, shops, pubs and individuals will take part this year. Get a few people involved, make a £1 donation each to our charity and enjoy the day. Can you help again this year? Try dying your hair red; get your colleagues to hold a non-uniform day. Sell some of our heart badges (if you would like a box, get in touch). Let your imagination run riot.

If we can help, we will, either by providing a fund-raising pack, a T- Shirt or some literature. If you would like to take part or for further information, please contact Kris Budge, Tavistock Branch Secretary. British Heart Foundation on 01822 615338 or email: krisbudge@sky.com
