T e Celtic Lands collections sell especially well in Sea Gems’
native Cornwall, as well as Ireland, Scotland and countries with large Celtic ancestral links - communities such as Australia and the USA. Other collections include Silver Symmetry, Celtic Magic Colour Change mood rings, Charles Rennie Mackintosh-inspired pieces. T e company also designs gift ranges, which include pens,
bookmarks, pillboxes and compacts in the Celtic and Mackintosh themes. T e collection will soon be made more accessible with the launch of Sea Gems’ new website after this Spring Fair. Fully transactional, the site will feature 100% of the company’s ranges. Marcus explains, “We’re very excited. It enables us to keep our customers completely up-to-date with everything we do. We’ll be able to keep in contact with our customers on a daily basis and exchange ideas with them. “More and more customers are happy to order online now,
especially in the export market, where it can be quite easy for them to lose track of all our diff erent products over the year. “Exhibitions are very important to us, for launching new ranges
at Spring Fair and Autumn Fair, allowing us to meet new and existing customers and break into new markets. Shows over the last few years have been our best ever.” Despite this recent success, Marcus acknowledges that trading conditions have been far from ideal. He says: “We know it’s been tough out there for retailers - the last few years have been very diffi cult. “As a wholesaler, this gives more emphasis to getting it right
and creating products that are exceptional and unique. You have to make sure that the designs and price points are correct. We want to be recognised as a company that has products that excite the retailer and that rapidly move off the shelves.” Sea Gems has some experience of retailing as the company has a shop in the coastal town of Marazion (opposite the spectacular island of St Michael’s Mount). Refurbished in 2010, the shop sells the Sea Gems ranges, using it as a barometer for consumer tastes.
