Cornish charm


Paul Hughes spoke to Sea Gems’ managing director Marcus Price about the company’s ranges and the infl uence of Cornwall’s majestic landscape and heritage on its jewellery

Six years ago the company moved to new purpose- built premises in Penzance. “It was one of the best moves we ever made,” explains Marcus. “It worked out very well for us. We have our own warehouse and plenty of space to expand.” T e strength of Sea Gems is in its designs - renowned for its stylish, beautiful silver jewellery and design-led gift collections,

T is allows the team to concentrate on the business of designing, importing and dealing with customers. “We’re very proud of our staff ,” says Marcus. “T ey play a vital role. Customer service is very important to us and it is always great to get good feedback.” For over 30 years, the company’s jewellery has been manufactured in T e Far East. “We have a great relationship with suppliers over there,” says Marcus. “T ey are very much part of the team.


“T ey understand our design ethos and produce the quality that


we require. Plus, they are easy to deal with and value their staff as much as we do ours. T ey also have the cutting edge technology needed to produce high-end jewellery.” Sea Gems’ main contemporary brand is Pure Origins - a unique and stylish range of inspirational Sterling Silver jewellery. T e signature style of the label is balanced, harmonious, free form shapes with an affi nity to nature, with elements of ocean and earth, botanically inspired fl owers, hibiscus, frangipani, daises and leaves. T is contemporary range is described as upbeat, feel good


jewellery - dynamic creations that aim to capture and inspire the wearer. T e range is supplied in attractive turquoise and white packaging with dramatic point of sale. T e company’s other ranges include the Celtic Lands collection, which translates ancient Celtic art into beautiful jewellery. “In Cornwall there are Celtic relics everywhere you look,” explains Marcus. “T is infl uences the way we think.”
