all retailers in this day and age, jewellery is being aff ected by a more specifi c problem, which is the rise in price of gold and silver.

Last year, hallmarking volumes through the four UK assaying offi ces were at their lowest since 1974, according to the Birmingham Assay Offi ce. The total of 14,841,840 units for the year was nearly 8% down on 2009.

forward to seeing more than 40,000 new product launches from over 400 exhibitors, ranging from established international diamond suppliers to the best new design talent the jewellery trade has to offer. The event will see the return of the Pandora Catwalk Café feature, which is set to bring fashion centre stage at the biggest retail trade event of the year. The three live catwalk shows every day (11.00am, 1.00pm and 4.00pm) brought a nice buzz to this growing sector of the exhibition last year and the same promises to be true this time around.

All exhibitors in this sector have invited to submit product for one of the catwalk shows, which have been styled by market-leading international trend forecasting service, WGSN. Buyers’ fi ngers can be kept fi rmly on the fashion pulse as they seek out the hottest new products for the seasons ahead. The Jewellery Show is the undoubted focus for jewellery buyers at the NEC, but there will also be plenty of jewellery in other halls, especially Halls 4 & 6, which are the base for exhibitors wishing to pitch to a more general market. Pages 106 onwards will give you a sneak preview of the best in show.
