ASU Art Museum film festival calls for entries


Area artists and fi lmmakers are invited to enter work in the 15th Annual ASU Art Museum Short Film and Video Festival by Fri., Jan. 28.


Artists can enter their work and attend the festival for free. The outdoor event celebrates the artistic and creative endeavors of people with different visions and levels of experience, and will be held at 8 p.m. Sat., April 23.

Burns It Up presents ‘Alice in Wonderland’


A unique, improvisation-based retelling of “Alice in Wonderland” is performed by Burns It Up, a nonprofi t children’s theatre company, Jan. 28 through 30 at Center Pointe’s Black Box Theatre in Ahwatukee. Performances are at 7 p.m. Fri., Jan. 28 and Sat., Jan. 29, and at 3 p.m. Sun., Jan. 30.


Tickets are $10 for adults and children 5 years and older, and $5 for children ages 2 to 4 years. Burns It Up founder and director Karen Burns is a Fox Crossing resident. Teen improv festival laughs it up


SanTan Sun area residents are invited to have a laugh at the 8th Annual First Ever Teen Improv Festival, taking place from 1 to 4 p.m. Sun., Jan. 30 at the John Paul Theatre on the Phoenix College campus.


Comedy troupes performing include On the Spot from East Valley Children’s Theatre, Proscenium Archers from Chandler High School and Urban Lemmings from Hamilton High School.


The festival was created in 2004 by the Arizona Jewish Theatre Company and its troupe, All Rights Reserved, who will also perform at the festival. Tickets are $5 at the door, check or cash preferred.
