KYRGYZSTAN DELIGHT I was delighted to find a copy of your

beautifully produced magazine in our room at the Davenport Hotel this past Christmas Eve. Your magazine is a treasure trove of

resources for everything from dog gear to jewelry to fine dining to home decor. I was enjoying paging through when I came upon the story of your Kyrgyzstan trip with the USAF. Fairchild AFB is familiar to us, as my husband is a retired mili- tary pilot. Our son, an Army major, was redeployed just before Christmas to the Middle East, leaving behind a bride of one month. So you can imagine how your experience flying out of Fairchild to visit the troops resonated with us. All the lovely things to experience here

in the Pacific Northwest which Living presents—and the freedoms we have to pursue them—are being defended by the men and women of our Armed Services. Thank you for sharing your adventure with us and for a first-hand reminder to be truly grateful. As this Christmas season comes to an

end, we wish you blessings of the Holy Season extending into the New Year.

Major and Mrs. G. W. Rohrer (USAF retired) Priest River, ID

(December 2010) and the accompanying Editor’s Letter (What I Want for Christmas). Thanks for showing the Inland Northwest how hard our service men and women are working to keep us free. Every ordinary day we take for granted is

safeguarded by their effort and sacrifice. Pennie Rundle Spokane, WA

KYRGYZSTAN ADVENTURE I completely enjoyed reading your recent Mis-

sion to Manas story in this last issue. I am assum- ing is extremely rare for a civilian to have an opportunity like this one. Your sense of wonder and appreciation for this rare glimpse was appar- ent. I was immediately captivated by your open- ing sentence describing waking in the pitch-black belly of a KC135R, joining the pilots on the flight deck and witnessing a glorious sunrise over Ice- land. As the rest of the invited journalists slept, I have to say it was a true an example of the phrase, “you snooze, you lose.” Your first-hand account of this adventure made me feel as if I, too, had expe- rienced Kyrgyzstan in some small way. Bravo Blythe! Though I always enjoy your writing, I can tell this one was special for you and I wanted you to know it was special for your readers as well. Thank you.

DECODED We’re watching more TV in our house, thanks

to you! I read about the new TV show on the His- tory channel, Decoded, starring WSU professor Buddy Levy, in the December 2010 issue, and was inspired to watch it. It is a great show, and it is especially fun to watch after reading your article about Buddy, and knowing that he might be sit- ting in a diner with his co-stars on the show, but he’d prefer to be at Luna, back in Spokane!
