Goalie Brian Carpentier puts a Bronco left pad on Wolf Pack’s Brian Barnard in a tight attempt to tie the game with under five minutes left in the game

Bronco goal keep Brian Carpentier faces a shot from Wolf Pack’s Colin Begin (#18)

Symbolic on the time clock but not on the scoreboard, :08 of the third period saw the Broncos rattle a shot off the crossbar behind Re, but unlike in the first-period for the Pack, a goal did not result. A mere three minutes and 46 seconds later, Bronco Cam Brock changed that reality by upping the Alvirne lead to 3-1 with just over 10 minutes left to play in regulation. Not sitting on the lead, Alvirne continued to play hard and apply the offensive pressure. But just 35

seconds after an unsuccessful Wolf Pack power play ended, W-P junior Brian Barnard scored from Stephen Barton, bringing the Pack back to within one goal. A quick snatch glove save by the Wolf Pack’s Re allowed them to stay within one, and on the heels

Pythons - continued from page 7

10 did continue to breathe (in a basketball context), but again was the only threat on the court for the navy and white. The Pythons opened the second half with an 8-2 run in the first two minutes. After a Saints time-out, Stephen Spirou, who was held to only three hoops in the first half, completed an old-fashioned, three-point

play, jumping the home team lead to 47-18. Complacent perhaps with a 29-point lead, the Pythons opened the door for St. Thomas to enjoy their ’15 minutes of fame’—in effect, a little under four minutes in game time. The Saints went on a relatively astounding nine to zero run, causing a reactionary Python time-out. “I need to see a difference right now,” barked

of that save, senior Colin Begin had one last-gasp scoring chance at the top of the crease. It was not meant to be and the Broncos escaped with an exciting one-goal win. Although Coach Gould was very pleased with a good effort from his squad, he still felt there were

some things his team needed to work on. This past practice, he indicated, “we’ve been working on shooting low and getting rebounds,“ adding that “we are still trying for the pretty goal.” Rubber abounded in this contest, as a total of 75 shots on goal were taken. Alvirne netminder Carpentier emerged with a solid 30-save performance on the afternoon along with the victory. The Wolf Pack is next on the ice when they take on division front-runner Somersworth on the road on January 22. On the same day, the Broncos are on the road against the Pembroke- Campbell skaters. Have an ’ice’ day!

Coach Regan, as he continued to motivate his team’s defensive intensity, despite a commanding lead. The lead remained at 20 and the quarter came to a close with the Pythons up 51-31. With the game basically in hand for Pelham, the fourth quarter

saw a loosely played last eight minutes characterized by plenty of long-range jumpers. Five Python triples, led by two from Anthony Spirou, allowed PHS to run up the score as they actually lapped St. Thomas on the scoreboard at one point with a 75-37 score.

Senior

guard Stephen Spirou poured in 16 second-half points en route to his 27-point performance. Brett Bailey and DeFranzo were solid contributors, as they each recorded 14 points on the night. For St. Thomas, despite having eight players get into the scoring column, it was Kahr’s 18 points that led the way for the Saints.
