Saint Michael’s offers the choice of residential or host family accommodation.
Living in the international atmosphere of the residential accommodation gives students the opportunity to become fully immersed in the life of the school. Students live in rooms of two (although there are some single rooms available), normally with a student from another country – an ideal way to make new friends and learn about different cultures.
The students are closely supervised by friendly, approachable staff who are on hand 24 hours a day to offer close personal attention. Students have supervised study each weekday evening and on Saturday mornings for two hours.
In their free time students have access to common rooms with small kitchens and to television and video facilities. Our sports facilities can also be used – football, basketball, tennis, etc. About once a month there is a full-day excursion and the school minibus is sometimes available for local trips.
All meals and a laundry service are provided at the College.
Our Host Family Officer takes great care in selecting host families. We try to match each student’s requirements with the family profile and as the only school
in the area using
host families we can be selective and use only those we consider to be most suitable.
All our students receive a warm welcome and a friendly environment in which to live and study. Naturally, it is not the same as living at home so students will have to adapt. They will be expected to live as part of the family, and this will sometimes involve helping the family in the house, doing simple things like keeping their bedroom tidy, setting the table or clearing away dishes after a meal. Many students really do become ‘one of the family’ and keep in touch with their host families for many years after their stay.
All meals, except where lunch is provided at the school, are taken with the host family. The family are responsible for doing the student’s laundry.

SCHOOL FACILITIES The School Grounds
The college, which has been listed by English Heritage for its architectural interest, is an impressive Victorian building set in 10 hectares of its own grounds. It was originally built in 1856 by an Oxford University Professor of Music to educate the choir boys from Saint Michael’s Church which is located next door.
The main building itself is just a small part of the continually expanding school. This houses the administrative offices, the library, dining room, medical room, art room, student common room and the fitness room. There are additional buildings
classrooms, residential accommodation, computer room and sports hall. The Hickman Teaching Centre was opened in the summer term 2009 and now provides new, modern classrooms for a variety of subjects.
Sports facilities to and from London
Heathrow airport are included in the fees on specified dates (see separate sheet for details of dates). The school must have seven days notice for transfers.
Transfers on other dates can be organised by the College, but the student will have to pay for the cost of the transport.
On the school grounds, Saint Michael’s College has the following sports facilities: • Outdoor heated swimming pool (used in the summer term and summer school only)
• An all weather flood-lit court for playing 5- a-side football, basketball and tennis
• A grass volleyball court • 2 grass football pitches • grass pitch used for baseball/cricket / rounders
• Small indoor sports hall • Fitness room
Our library is housed in the main building and has a very traditional feel about it. It has recently been refurbished with a completely new range of books and new computers with free internet connection have been installed. There is also a mezzanine floor with a private study.
We also hire out the local leisure centre every Wednesday afternoon in order for all the students to enjoy a vast number of sports together. Activities offered on a Wednesday include volleyball, squash, badminton, swimming (indoors), football, basketball, volleyball, gym / weight training, aerobics.
The Student Common Room
The student common room is a recent addition to our facilities and is housed on the second floor of the main building. It contains the following facilities: •TV lounge with satellite TV / DVD etc • Games room with table-tennis, table football and pool table
• An internet cafe area with free internet connection and a cafe bar selling hot and cold snacks, drinks etc
• A dance floor used for disco nights and also Karaoke etc.
