Day 1: Auckland – Bay Of Islands


Cross the Waitemata Harbour, travelling north to Whangarei and Paihia. Upon arrival in Paihia, visit the Waitangi Treaty grounds. This afternoon is at your leisure for optional activities, such as a visit to quaint Russell.

Day 2: Paihia


A full day coach tour to Cape Reinga, via Puketi Kauri Forest, to view giant Kauri trees. Zoom along Ninety Mile Beach. Stop for sightseeing and refreshments (own expense).


Overnight: Paihia Day 3: Bay of Islands – Auckland


Cruise amongst the many islands of the Bay and through the intriguing Hole in the Rock, dolphin watchin en-route. Board your awaiting coach and travel back to Auckland once more. Arriving in Auckland early evening.

Day 1: Queenstown – Pyke River Lodge (17km/5-7 hours walking)


Travel from Queenstown to the start of the track in the Hollyford Valley. Walk besides the Hollyford River and gaze at the mighty Southern Alps, including Fiordland National Park’s two highest peaks of Mt Tutoko and Mt Madeline. Arrive at Pyke Lodge and enjoy hot showers and an impressive 3-course dinner.


Overnight: Pyke River Lodge Day 2: Pyke River Lodge – Martin’s Bay Lodge (12 km/4-5 hours walking)


Walk to Lake Alabaster and an optional crossing of Fiordland’s longest swing bridge. After a short walk you’ll board a jet boat for a ride along the Hollyford River and down Lake McKerrow. A little farther on, Long Reef plays host to a colony of native New Zealand fur seals.


Overnight: Martin’s Bay Lodge Day 3: Martin’s Bay Lodge – Queenstown (8 km/3-4 hours walking)


Explore Martin’s Bay Spitt and view a historical site of a once-significant Maori settlement. The guide will also highlight the plant and wildlife of this unique environment. There is time to explore the isolated beach and sand dunes. Return to Martin’s Bay Lodge for lunch, then enjoy a scenic flight along the rugged coast and into the truly spectacular and dramatic Milford Sound. Return to Queenstown by coach.


Departure: Hollyford Track is seasonal with regular departures between October 2011 to April 2012 NOTE: Tour does not operate between May and Sept.

7 days/6 nights Itinerary


Day 1: Christchurch – Christchurch


Welcome to Christchurch, known as the ‘Garden City’, where you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Today is yours for optional activities.


Overnight: Christchurch Day 2: Christchurch – Queenstown


Cross the Canterbury Plains into the Mt Cook National Park and through the spectacular Mackenzie Country to the Lindis Pass. Pass the stone fruit-growing area of Cromwell and past the Kawarau Gorge, with its historic gold mines to Queenstown.


Overnight: Queenstown Day 3: Queenstown – Milford Sound


A full day tour to Fiordland National Park. Pass stunning lakes, pristine beech forests and the Homer Tunnel. Board a cruise on the Sound to view the majesty of Mitre Peak and Bowen Falls. Return to Queenstown by evening.


Overnight: Queenstown Day 4: Queenstown – Queenstown


Today is free for you to enjoy this fabulous alpine village. We have included the Skyline Gondola in your tour. There are dozens of optional activities available to choose from. Overnight: Queenstown


Day 5: Queenstown – Franz Josef


Travel through the Southern Lakes district to Haast Pass and on through dense rainforest broken by rugged coastal vistas.


Overnight: Franz Josef Day 6: Franz Josef – Franz Josef


Today is at leisure and we suggest a helicopter landing or a guided walk onto the glacier (own expense).


Overnight: Franz Josef Day 7: Franz Josef – Christchurch


Travel north along the narrow, bush-clad coastal plain past Hokitika, to Greymouth. Board the renowed TransAlpine train and travel through the Otira Tunnel, over Arthur’s Pass and across the Canterbury Plains to Christchurch, arriving early evening.
