visual effects and changes colour as you move it around, making it ideal for my work with guitars,’ said Michelle. ‘Last April I covered this electric guitar entire- ly in dichroic glass for the yearly exhibition at Opus Mosaic gallery, Exeter, the theme being Art Nouveau. I based my designs on the work of Gustave Klimt.
‘I also made a second piece, the mosaic pic- ture for the exhibition, using a mixture of stained glass and dichroic glass called Klimt’s Midnight Garden.’
After entering the competition she was thrilled
to receive an email to say she had won and had a runner-up prize for her picture. ‘I am very proud to be the first British artist to win a prize in this competition, especially as the work of the other artists taking part was of such a high standard,’ she said. She was was awarded $650 to spend at CBS. This isn’t the first time Michelle’s work has made the news.
In September 2009 she created a mosaic guitar inspired by the cover of the Muse album The Resistance.
The internationally renowned band signed the guitar and it sold for £8,100 on auction website eBay for Teignbridge charity the Helen Founda- tion.
Michelle has also worked with various schools creating mosaics and has been instrumental in making three large mosaics which were part of the 750th year of Bovey Tracey Charter Celebra- tions earlier this year.
