Japan is made up of four main islands, beginning from the north and working south, they are:

Hokkaido is the northernmost island known for its wealth of wildlife, magnificent mountain scenery and hot springs. Come wintertime, it also becomes a mecca for Japan’s ski and snowboarding enthusiasts. Sapporo is the fifth largest city in Japan and plays host to the internationally acclaimed Snow Festival in early February when giant snow sculptures dominate Odori Park.

Honshu is the largest island and full to the brim of sights to see. At the centre of Japan geographically, it is also the heart of Japanese civilisation, history and culture. Ancient capitals Kyoto and Nara contrast starkly with their modern counterpart Tokyo, but all are equally rich in unique ‘Japaneseness’.
