TECHNICAL REVIEW From the Editor’s Desk
This edition leads with a report on the ABU Technical Committee meeting in Tokyo. We have provided a synopsis, with main items featured in Boxes.
The three articles in this issue have been kindly contributed by KBS-Korea, BA-Australia and NHK-Japan.
The KBS article describes the advancements of the T-DMB system in Korea and developments in video services and high quality stereo-channel audio services coupled with slideshows, using the increased data rate.
The Broadcast Australia article on Australian DTV explores the challenges of deploying a nationwide digital broadcast network for DTT services in that country, providing insight into key lessons learnt and what constitutes the ‘digital difference’.
The article on the NHK on demand (NOD) services identifies the challenges faced on launching NOD services and reviews the introduction of IPTV services in Japan, something which will be of particular interest to broadcasters who intend to utilise this technology in the future.
This issue also includes profiles of our members in Australia; a new feature in which we will profile members in other countries in the future. The objective is to help members to get to know each other better.
In addition, our regular features; news from the region, updates on digital broadcasting and new broadcasting equipment, make up the rest.
Just to remind you again that the electronic copy of the Review (e-Technical Review) is available on the main page of the ABU website (
www.abu.org.my) for ABU members and the general public.
