ABU Developing Broadcasters Seek More Training on Digital Implementation
The Forum meeting held in Tokyo was attended by over 30 delegates, and was chaired by Ms Lim Soh Kwang of RTB-Brunei.
The Chairman reported on the activities carried out in the past year and highlighted the setting up of a new activity for a Low-cost OB Van and the Radio-in-a-Box utility. The programme of activities for the next year was also presented. Some of the members stressed the need for more awareness and training activities on file-based production systems, their operational aspects, workflow management, and IT skills for broadcast engineers.
The meeting also featured two very informative and interesting presentations.
Yoshinori Nakamura of NHK presented, “Approach of disaster and the weather information systems,” in which he looked into
the importance of providing accurate and timely information on weather and climate change to viewers in an easy to understand format. He explained how NHK has implemented a system which can automatically generate the necessary information screens, based on data received from the Met. office, using a chain of servers at the NHK broadcast centre.
“How relevant is 3DTV for Developing Broadcasters,” was the topic presented by Philip Nottle of SONY-Australia. He looked into the type of content that can create an impression on the audience with 3DTV, such as sports, live performances, nature documentaries and movies. He also noted that news and current affairs type of productions may not be as appealing as a 3D presentation. Looking into 3DTV technology, image capture, production and post-production techniques and issues, he specifically stressed the importance of having an HD infrastructure ready before moving on to 3DTV implementation.
Ms Lim Soh Kwang of RTB-Brunei chaired the forum.
