The Technical Committee meeting in Tokyo was quite successful and included several new features, one of these being the CTO Forum which provided a platform for exchange of information among the members’ Engineering Heads on pivotal issues, primary solutions to the issues and how ABU could provide assistance in these issues. The delegates got a chance to witness foremost broadcast technological developments at the NHK STRL.
On return from Tokyo, we quickly compiled the documents and presentations made at the TC. This information package has been dispatched to all TLOs in a DVD, together with similar packages from the other departments.
We are in the midst of taking action on all the issues that came up at the TC meetings as well as on individual requests for specific assistance received directly from members.
We have commenced preparatory work for events this year and the next. In November, the DRM Consortium and the Department conducted a successful trial and a workshop on the DRM+ technology in Colombo, benefitting radio members in that region. This event was the first DRM+ trial in the Asia-Pacific region.
Three Technical Advisory missions have recently been successfully completed, providing assistance to NTRC- Uzbekistan, Fiji TV and FSMBS-Micronesia.
Among the upcoming events are the two IBU-ABU Workshops on HDTV Studio Planning in Amman and on Webcasting, IPTV and HBBTV in Jakarta.
Invitations have already been sent out to the members and our industry partners to participate in the ABU Digital Broadcasting Symposium 2011 (8-11 March) in Kuala Lumpur. Our preparations are in full swing and we have secured several sponsorships, with more expected to come in.
