“Thumbs down to both sides of those in

Pelham who argue over a new school or a massive addition to the existing building. The reason Academy’s have so many buildings on one campus is to continue changing with the times, expanding when necessary, and to not disrupt education during construction. Building a science center is what most private schools have just done or are looking into building. Separate athletic centers/gyms are also another way of expanding. Small arts buildings are on many sites. Look into it and you will find these mini campuses are everywhere. Moving classes from the older building frees up space for additional students.”

“Thumbs up, way up to Leia for making the

Dean’s List again with a 4.0 for Quinnipiac University’s Master of Occupational Therapy Program. Congratulations; your hard work is paying off!!! We love you Little Sweet Pea!!! Mom & Mike”

“Thumbs down to the person who wrote the ‘thumbs down’ regarding the flute ensemble at the Windham High School Holiday Concert. We should be celebrating the fact that these young women, who were so encouraged by their WHS music teachers, and so love music, that they spent their limited free time to rehearse and gift the audience with an absolutely beautiful and professional performance. You should be saying, ‘this is the kind of dedication our country needs in our young people, not complaining that the administration should not allow this kind of display because the concerts might get too long?”

“Thumbs down to those parents who feel compelled to express their disgust with their child’s school staff, events or other parents in the ‘thumbs up/thumbs down.’ I ask that you please think before you speak. I have children enrolled in our fine schools and although I may not always agree with an administrative decision or support a school-sponsored event 100%, I would never voice my concerns in such a public manner. Keep in mind that our children lead by example and some of our children are old enough to read this paper. Be kind and if you have an issue with your school administration or PTA, please handle it behind closed doors.”

“Thumbs up to my Lord and Savior, Jesus-the reason for the season! Without Him, everything is meaningless. May everyone be abundantly blessed this season with hope and peace, and knowledge of His unconditional love. He lived and died, just for YOU! <3”

“Thumbs up. Our family wishes to give a

very special Christmas and holiday ‘thumbs up’ to our very close friends, neighbors, and entire Windham community for your love, support, and generosity you’ve shown us since our son started his fight against cancer this summer. We moved to Windham several years ago on the premise that

Windham was a place where people truly cared for and supported one another. Your generosity has overwhelmed us and has proven those beliefs. There is no other place in the world we’d rather live. So many of you have selflessly given so much of yourselves and have asked for nothing in return. To all of you, including our close friends and neighbors, to everyone at Golden Brook and St. Matthew’s Parish, we say thank you from the bottom

of our hearts. Our battle wages on but we do so knowing we wage it with so many of you behind us. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year Windham, we love you all!!”

“Thumbs down to the person who wrote about the performing flute ensemble at Windham High School’s concert on the 8th. The students who put that ensemble together worked really hard to reach their goals and get a good program started at the new school. The night of the concert wasn’t supposed to be a ‘rock concert’ and a night for bands; it was for the students enrolled in music classes to perform. Parents shouldn’t be going home and complaining about one part of the concert. They went to support their children not to criticize other students who put a lot of effort into their performance.”

“Thumbs up to Dr. Matt Hawkins at Essex Orthopaedics. He got me an appointment immediately and took

excellent care of me. Thank you Dr. Matt!!”

“Thumbs “Thumbs down to Walter Kolodziej for missing

the vote on HCR26.” “Thumbs up to our fire chief Jim Midgely

and Pelham Police Chief Joe Roark for helping out with the Pelham Ice Garden these past few days. As the leaders of these organizations, they ‘lead by example’ and helped do some heavy lifting when building our ice rink and also the day after the snowstorm. There’s something to be said for the leaders grabbing a shovel, getting dirty, and helping to serve and protect our community. Thanks to both of you. And also thanks to your entire team for supporting the efforts at the community ice rink!”

“Thumbs down to the

now. I will let you all know after the next board meeting.”

“Thumbs up, a big ‘thumbs up’ to the Pelham

PD, FD, and whomever the nice person at Rite Aid was that found and returned my wallet on New Years Eve. Special thanks to Sgt. Anne Therriault for taking the time to bring it to me! Keep up the great work!” 603-890-3344

Pelham Selectmen for continuing to pursue 2 rotaries in Pelham Center. Don’t you realize that rotaries cause more traffic problems than they solve? Why do you think the rotaries on Rte 1 in Lynn and Revere were bypassed? Why did they take out the ones in front of the Bourne and Sagamore bridges on the Cape? I have friends from the UK, where village ‘roundabouts’ are ubiquitous, who tell me they have been doing away with them for years because of all the traffic headaches they cause. This is obviously just a ruse to get the new fire station they want without the inconvenience of getting taxpayer approval.”

up to Center School in Windham! Mrs. Finch is amazing and goes above and beyond what is expected. Thank you for all your hardwork!!!”

who complained when gas was three dollars under President Bush but keep quiet when it is over three dollars under Obama. I guess you complainers must be liberal democrats.”

“Thumbs down to the Scrooge who asks ‘why.’ I started asking myself ‘why’ someone would be so BA-HUMBUG at such a joyous time of year. And as for the question ‘Why people say Happy Holidays?’, its self explanatory, its plural, duh, people know there is more than one recognized holiday in December. If you don’t recognize either holiday, surely even you could find some joy in your life to celebrate instead of trying to make it joy less for others. PS - if you don’t want to take the day off next holiday season, come shovel my driveway, I’ll be wrapping Christmas presents. I say what I mean, I mean what I say!”

“Thumbs down to representative Bates, for misleading house resolution HCR26 for misrepresenting what a house resolution is and voting for his religious beliefs before voting for the people’s constitutional rights of separation of church and state.”

down to the person who has a problem with people wishing

other people Happy Holidays. For your

information, I say ‘Happy Holidays’ as a way

of wishing people Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa and Happy New Year. I may not know which holiday you celebrate and, in fact, I know many families who celebrate both Christmas and Hanukkah. So, as a way of wishing you good things, with respect to whatever holiday you choose to celebrate, I say ‘Happy Holidays.’ In fact, ‘Happy Holidays’ is a lot nicer than many of the comments I hear people make to each other. So, instead of criticizing a kind remark, you might try to embrace some of the true spirit of the season yourself.“

“Thumbs down to the person who wrote in about the one coach who played professional baseball for a brief moment in time. Unfortunately, you need to get your head out of the sand! One good coach does not make a quality baseball organization. Believe me, he will do his time, realize how bad the organization is and how underhanded and sneaky they are, and he, like all the other good coaches before him, will leave. We’ve seen it happen year after year and mark my words, it will happen again. This program used to be top-notch under the previous board, but unfortunately, the current administration has ruined it. Ask them how much money they made last year? Will you see a decrease in your fees? No, in fact, your fees will probably be raised. There are no new expenses, there are no higher costs incurred to them this year than last. Makes an intelligent person wonder. Ask them where your money goes - ask for a breakdown of costs. You would be VERY surprised! Hopefully, because of this ‘thumbs’ your fees will not be raised

who, that when they see a pet and owner on a busy Pelham street; with limited room due to the snow; either slow down or pull over for safety. Thank you. We appreciate your actions.”

“Thumbs down to small engine repair place

in Pelham for doubling his prices from two years ago during this recession. Rude on the phone and didn’t even get my tractor running.”

“Thumbs down to PES for not enforcing their dress codes! They say no backless shoes, shorts etc, but nothing is done if kids come in wearing these items and it is not fair to the children that are following the rules!!”

“Thumbs down to the ‘Scrooge’ comment. Not that I care that you called me Scrooge but you missed the point. Groups that WHS forms through the school should be available to all the students interested in the activity of the group. Excluding people causes hurt feelings and may be seen as discrimination and bullying. I know for a fact the ‘Flute Ensemble’ did not give all students that play the flute a chance to join their group. Some students play flute and are not in the band. If my child wanted to start a dance club at the school and only ask friends to join or exclude certain people from joining the group I don’t think that would be allowed and I would hope it would not be allowed. I think more groups and clubs will be great for WHS but discrimination and bullying are not. I hope I made my point clear. The concert was great but lets work collaboratively to include all students.”

“Thumbs up, way up to the new 3.7 million state of the art concrete fire station proposal. Unlike kindergarten and tuitioning our high school students out of town, this necessary and most economical permanent plan will benefit everybody in this town. Great central location and will help clean up the center of the town from the old eyesore. Vote ‘yes’ on this necessary, permanent and most beneficial new fire station plan that we all need.”

“Thumbs down to the Pelham planning board and conservation commission who should be ashamed for allowing Walgreens Drug to build so close to Beaver Brook. What happened to the 50- 75 foot setback from wetlands? The grandfather clause should not be allowed because the footprint of the new structure is too large. What about the fact that you are probably in a flood zone?”

“Thumbs down for wanting to fire the nice

French man from the transfer station, he’s a hard worker. You should be ashamed of yourself.”
