INDULGENCES house and home by joel martens ANDROID PHONES: The Android platform phones have IN 2011 TOP 5 ALL THE RAGE 2011 is here and instead of looking back in review,
we’re going to focus ahead on the items that are sure to be hot for the coming year. There are hundreds of items that could be featured but I think the tech items that are listed below represent a continuing trend even though much of them started their lives in 2010. These all have changed the face of their markets and will continue to do so as they evolve and move forward.
at this point surpassed the iPhone in sales and are expected to grow beyond the projected 25% of market for 2011. The lack of apps is pretty much a non-issue at this point, and ease of use make this one of the hot items for 2011. There are many models out (Motorola Droid X, HTC Evo 4G and Incredible, to mention a few) and so many more that are cur- rent and endless more projected to come out. My roommate and I argue regularly about which platform is the best iPhone or his Android, a fight from which neither of us is willing to back down.
IPHONE 4: Still on the list for 2011 – this phone is setting a new standard for ease of use and versatility. Still retaining roughly 23% of the market according to Hanna Sentence of Focus, I can’t see
that trend changing much in the near future. And with the rumored partnering with Verizon in 2011, and the
release (again rumored) of the iPhone 5 later in the year, hang on to your blue tooth, the rides about to speed up!
THE iPAD: With upward of 70 million units sold, this is the little engine that could. Jimmy Young from the Daily Sun estimates that the iPad maintains 95 per- cent market share in tablet computing. It is going gangbusters in the consumer market, but it is also taking hold in the business arena. If you have never used one, go out to your local Apple Store and get your hands on one, once you do you will never look back! Also, keep your eyes open as the prediction is the iPad 2 should be out sometime this summer!
SLINGBOX: This technology is by Slingbox Media and has changed the way Television works. You can now grab your home television signal and send it to anywhere you may be in the world. The manufacturer calls it “placeshifting” streaming data via the web, which lets you take your TV anywhere you travel as long as you have a connection—it may be your laptop, PDA or cell phone. Think of it, you can be anywhere in the world and pull up your television and never miss an episode of Housewives or for the more news oriented, Rachel Maddow!
XBOX 360: If you’re in to gaming, this is your baby. The new model has a much slimmer design, a larger 250GB hard drive, built-in Wi-Fi, five USB ports, a dedicated Kinect port, and onboard optical digital audio which are major improvements. Include the Microsoft Kinect motion control devise and prepare to be amazed. You are no longer limited to hand-held game control devices, you set the motion with your body! It is incredible and changes the home gaming experience and make this a hot trend for 2011!
