THE
GREEN HORNET AT A GLANCE
REAL NAME: Britt Reid OCCUPATION: Newspaper Publisher/Vigilante
FAMOUS RELATIVES: In the original radio series Britt Reid was the great nephew of The Lone Ranger.
EQUIPMENT: Other than a mask, the Green Hornet didn’t wear any of the usual super hero accoutre- ments. He often carries a gas gun in many versions of the character. In all incarnations of the character his method of transportation is a super-charged sedan known as “The Black Beauty” which is armed with various weaponry and gadgets.
view Rogen said, “As soon as we saw him, we were like, ‘This guy is really cool. He kind of seems like a pop star, you know? He’s really charismatic, he’s handsome, he has the cool hair, and he just seemed like the last guy who should be subservient to me.’” This led to Kato’s role in the film being portrayed as that of an equal to his boss in some ways and superior in most others. Cameron Diaz plays Britt’s new secretary Lenore Case,
the “Lois Lane” character and potential love interest for both Reid and The Hornet. In the original radio and movie serials Case didn’t know Reid’s secret identity at first, but later learned his secret identity and became a
supporter in his war on crime. The movie’s villain is Benjamin Chudnofsky, played
by Christopher Waltz. Chudnofsky is a Russian mobster who intends to organize all of Los Angeles’ criminal gangs into a single “super-mafia.” Waltz is well known to audiences for playing a bad guy after winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for playing the nazi villain in the 2009 film Inglourious Basterds.
The Green Hornet hits theaters January 14 and will be available in regular and 3-D formats.
SIDEKICK: In the pre-politically correct days of the ‘30s the Green Hornet’s “oriental” sidekick Kato was at various times described as being of Japanese, Filipino and Korean ancestry. All versions of the character have been martial arts experts and oftentimes is portrayed as the person who saves his boss, unlike many super hero sidekicks whose main purpose seems to be to get captured and rescued.
ROMANTIC ENTANGLEMENTS: The Hornet and/ or his alter ego have usually been romantically linked to Britt Reid’s secretary Lenore Case.
NOTABLY PORTRAYED BY: Al Hodge (radio), Gor- don Jones (movie serials), Van Williams (television), Seth Rogen (film)
