WATCH THIS:
Sordid Lives: The Series Del Shores’ Sordid Lives originally
premiered as a play in 1996, and was then followed by a 2000 film version, which managed to achieve a cult status with its depiction of the goings on of a colorful cast of characters who reside in a small Texas town. For the third incarnation as a TV series for LOGO, many of the film’s cast, such as Leslie Jordan, Olivia Newton-John, Bonnie Bedelia and Beth Grant, are onboard to revisit their characters. However, the series served as a prequel to the events of the stage and big screen incarnations, and added late, great Golden Girl Rue McClana- han as family matriarch Peggy Ingram to the fray of white trash shenanigans. Available January 11.
The Last Exorcism When The Blair Witch Project
scared the beejeezus out of movie-goers in 1999, its video camera approach to the horror genre
forever changed the medium, and has subsequently unleashed a slew of like-minded projects, such as The Last Exorcism, over the years. A troubled priest, Reverend Cotton Marcus (Patrick Fabian), concedes to have a documentary crew film chronicle what is to be his last go
’round with those in the throes of being possessed. The stage is set at a creepy rural farm house, located in Louisiana, owned by the Sweetzer family, including their young daughter named Nell (Ashley Bell), who seems to be the target of a demon. Marcus has his shaky foundation of faith put to the test, when he realizes there is more than meets the eye
(and video camera lens) to the situation-at-hand. Available January 4.
Howl James Franco once again proves that he is a very gay-
friendly actor, after his turn in 2008’s Milk, the thespian turned his talents onto another milestone (no, not his stint on General Hospital) in gay history. Franco stars as writer Allen Ginsberg whose book-length poem, Howl, was and is considered a groundbreaking piece of literary work. It also was viewed as contro-
versial, which led to a 1950 obscenity trial in an attempt to have the poem censored. The period piece also co-stars Jon Hamm and Mary-
Mary Ann in Autumn: A Tales of the City Novel
Armistead Maupin Following on the heels of 2007’s Michael Tolliver Lives is author Armistead Maupin’s latest chapter in the lives of the San Francisco residents who once dwelled at 28 Barbary Lane. Mary Ann in Autumn catches up with the lynchpin character, some 20
years after she left her husband and daughter for the bright lights, big city prospect of a career in New York. Her return to the City by the Bay finds the now 60-year-old character back with news that she can only share with Michael “Mouse” Tolliver—with whom she is seeking refuge at his garden cottage. She attempts to reconnect with her daughter Shawna, a popular sex blogger, as well as former landlady Anna Madrigal. Available Now.
