News from Tavistock Youth Café Plus


TAVISTOCK Youth Café Plus has been running for just over 3 years now and continues to be an important service for local children, parents and carers who have become good friends and whose lives have improved beyond recognition in some cases.


Hard work by Treasurer Tracy Barton has helped to obtain a £5,000 grant for the café from the ‘Aiming High for Disabled Children’ Charity. TYCP grows from strength to strength with an increasing number of members and helpers on hand to give the children and young adults a fun and structured environment during their regular Monday night sessions. Allen Lewis has stepped down from his position as Secretary, to concentrate on promoting further awareness of the group. New Secretary, retired Headmistress Jan Gasper, has a vast knowledge of working with autistic children. Chairperson Cathy Sharp is thrilled to announce that “In one week we have hit the jackpot in receiving two


£5,000 awards for TYCP, one from ‘Aiming High’ and the other from BBC Children in Need”.


Allen has also managed to obtain a further £5,000 for the Tavistock Specials Football Team, again from ‘Aiming High’. He says,’’ With this financial help we can expand the Disability Football Squad to deaf and blind players and players in


wheelchairs. This is so exciting as our aim is not to have to turn anyone away. We are looking forward to the 2011 season and as always I must personally thank businesses in this area who come with me on these great causes and they never let me down!’’
