An exhibition of original artwork from the card series by Laura Wall ‘Love at the Seaside’ at Duchy Square Centre for Creativity, Princetown


BORN in 1985 in Gravesend, Kent, Laura Wall moved to Devon with her parents in 2001.


graduating with a 1st in Fine Art from Aberystwyth University she worked for a Plymouth TV station initially as a “runner” and eventually became an Assistant Editor.


However, in January last year, the desire to concentrate on her artwork full time was too strong.


Laura, “I felt I had to give my painting a go as it has always been my first love”. So Laura swapped the edit suite for a pot of paintbrushes and so far it seems to be paying off! She says, “I feel very blessed that the artwork has been so widely accepted and look forward to the future to see where it takes me next”.


‘Love at the Seaside’ and was inspired by the many coastal seaside towns around Devon and Cornwall. The artwork features a loved up couple and their dog visiting the local scenes that are painted in a quirky and whimsical way using pen and watercolour. Over the last year Laura has approached galleries around the Southwest and is now exhibiting in over 25 galleries across Devon and Cornwall. More recently her work has expanded as far as the Lake District, Wales and Somerset and will be exhibited at the NEC (National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham) Spring Fair in February. She is excited at the prospect of this and says, “I feel

lucky to have been noticed by a publisher who will represent me at this fantastic trade show”.


Another publisher has also approached Laura to use her designs in a series of greetings cards, wrapping paper, bookmarks and calendars and these will be on sale in shops in January. Laura’s exhibition at Duchy Square will exhibit original artwork from the card series, which are as large as 70x70cm! “This was so I could get in lots of detail,” she explains. “I really went to town on some of them adding in hidden mice, seagulls and all sorts of quirky fun bits!”


There will be a private viewing of these paintings that the public are invited to on Friday 14th January from 6.30 - 8.30pm with wine, nibbles and live music. Products from the card series and wrapping paper will also be available to buy on the night.
