Old Harlow & Newhall PCSO Chrisie Goodman I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year.
This is the time of year when thieves take advantage of the fact that many of you have received some lovely new presents such as jewellery, electrical items and of course the children’s new bikes. It is a good idea to take photographs of any new jewellery so that it can easily be identifi ed after a burglary, try and keep a record of serial numbers from electrical goods and think about security marking them. Take photos of the bikes and any serial numbers you can fi nd on the frame and again think about security marking. Always lock your bike even if you are leaving it for a couple of minutes. Avoid parking it in isolated/dimly lit places. Get a good bike lock. Hardened steel D-Shaped locks are recommended as the minimum standard. Lock your bike to an immovable object - bike rack or lamp post/railings.
During late November/early December Old Harlow suffered a lot of house burglaries where vehicles were also stolen. I am pleased to say that several of these vehicles have now been found and reunited with their
owners. We had extra offi cers patrolling the streets of Old Harlow overnight throughout December.
