Eating is one of my greatest pleasures and pizza is my favorite food. When I arrived in Rochester, I wanted pizza – my-style. All styles of pizza from tradizionale to nouvo can be
found around Rochester. Today, I had the classic one-quarter-inch thick mozzarella cheese-topped pizza at Bilotti’s Italian Village, rated by Rochester residents as one of their favorites places for pizza at lunch or dinner. The warm, welcoming Italian hospitality and painted interior of Bilotti’s seemed as though I was dining in a Venetian café.
Tomorrow, I’m going to create a healthy gourmet pizza at zPizza in The Shops at University Square. I’ll have it made on whole wheat flour crust, topped with chipotle pesto, chicken cilantro sausage, caramelized onions, shiitake mushrooms, truffle oil and vegan cheese.
Before I leave, I’ll go up to Pi Wood-Fired Pizza in the northwest part of town. The hand-crafted pizzas, aromas of the oak wood-fired oven and atmosphere at Pi are amazing and there’s convenient shopping nearby.
I hear the desserts at Mr. Pizza North are phenomenal. Their in-house chef bakes cheesecakes, cookies, bars and biscotti. I’m going to try the Tiramisu cheesecake there or take it back to our room.
When my pizza cravings are satisfied, I’ll find an array of international flavors in Rochester. I’d also like to get dressed-up to dine at one of the city’s fine restaurants. A glass of wine with seafood or Mediterranean fare will make this a memorable trip.
For healthy snacks and late night treats, I picked up imported Italian olive oil, cheese, bread and locally grown fresh organic produce from one of the city’s fine specialty grocery stores. Local business owners, managers and employees of these stores are so friendly. I feel as if I’m shopping in my hometown grocery store where everyone knows me.
