AUTHOR APPEARANCES 28th Street

thursday, December 2. 7:00pm. Author talk and Booksigning with David herlihy for his new book, the Lost Cyclist: the epic tale of an American Adventurer and his Mysterious Disapperance. In the late 1880s, Frank Lenz of Pittsburgh, a renowned high-wheel racer and long-distance tourist, dreamed of cycling around the world. In the spring of 1892 he quit his accounting job and gamely set out west to cover twenty thousand miles over three continents. Two years later, after having survived countless near disasters, he approached Europe for the final leg. He never made it. Herlihy’s gripping narrative captures the soaring joys and constant dangers accompanying the bicycle adventurer in the days before paved roads and automobiles.

thursday, December 9. 7:00pm. Author talk and Booksigning with heather Sellers for her breakthrough memoir, You Don’t Look Like Anyone I Know. An unusual and uncommonly moving family memoir, with a twist. Heather has prosopagnosia, a rare neurological condition that prevents her from reliably recognizing people’s faces. Growing up, unaware of the reason for her perpetual confusion and anxiety, she took what cues she could from speech, hairstyle and gait. Without knowing her condition she feared she must be crazy. Over time, Heather came to trust her own perceptions.

Saturday, December 11. 11am-noon. Booksigning with Susan Collins thoms for her new children’s picture book, 12 Days of Christmas in Michigan. It’s holiday time in the Great Lakes State! Travel with Katie and her cousin to see Motor City, drive down the country’s first concrete highway, tour some of Michigan’s 115 lighthouses, and take a ride in a horse-drawn sleigh.

Saturday, December 11. 1:00-2:00pm. Booksigning with Dan Mulhern (First Gentleman of Michigan) for his new business book, Be real. In Be Real, Dan offers short written pieces that break open leadership and offer practical angles on how to do it better. Although he’s married to a Governor and has functioned in very high level settings, Dan focuses on the aspects of leadership that cut completely across the various levels of authority. Thus, it comes as no surprise that he begins this book with a chapter on family, which he calls “the most important place where any of us will ever lead.”
