Colneis Flower Club

Music and Christmas poetry enhanced Dulcie Lofting's demonstration entitled 'Anticipation'. Throughout, she talked about the anticipation of Christmas and showed how to use just a few flowers and lots of garden foliage, fir cones and glitter to create beautiful, colourful arrangements which could be used before, during and after Christmas. Red carna- tions, golden yellow roses, deep pink lilies and red amaryllis brought Christmas alive and made us realise we didn't necessarily have to spend a fortune on flowers. At the end of a very entertaining evening our stage was full of colour and everyone agreed it had been a good evening. Coffee, tea and mince pies rounded everything off and the lucky win- ners of the raffle took home a lovely Christmas arrangement. Photos of all our demonstrations can be found on www.colneisflowerclub.org Our next meeting, the AGM and social evening, is on 20th January 2011. I do hope you will come along and join in the fun. Meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month at 7.30pm in the Old Felixstowe Community Centre, Ferry Lane. Margaret Miller

Felixstowe Morning WI

To get us in the festive mood, Joan Lumkin showed us how to make beautiful fabric hanging decorations. Members enjoyed a very tasty Christmas meal at the Brook Hotel and our Chrtistmas meeting was greatly enhanced by D&D, a local musical duo. We are in for a treat in January when Janet Dann will read us some of her poetry, both humorous, topical or nostalgic. Vicki Westren.

Interspersed with personal reminiscences, George Buckland on 17th November presented At Home with the Composers, with Elgar in the Malverns, Handel in London, Grieg in Norway, and Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven and the Strausses in Vienna. A most interesting and enjoyable evening. The bad weather reduced the numbers attending the Christmas party on 1st December, but a jolly time was had by all who made it. We resume on 19th January, when Ken Slater presents an Herbaceous Border and on 2nd February Heather Farthing presents Six Degrees of Separation. Both intriguing titles but bound to be absorbing. 7.30pm at the URC Hall, Tomline Road. More from Mike Fowle, on 01394 275098.
