ating. It’s something everyone does. It fuels daily tasks and helps the body recover from exercise. It can be an intensely pleasurable experience. Food and eating can also be the cause of stress. Some people feel out of control around food. They use food to stuff down emotions or eat mindlessly to alleviate boredom. Food becomes the enemy. There is a way out of this trap. People can lose weight and learn to eat healthily not by denying themselves food but by embracing a mindful approach toward eating. Eat, Drink, and Be Mindful is a 10-week workshop designed to help members change their relationship toward food. Participants learn to reconnect with their body so that they can become aware of their hunger and fullness cues. Members learn to stop feeling guilty about what they eat and start feeling acceptance and compassion for themselves. Everyone learns to savor their meals and achieve more satisfaction from less food. Led by Exercise Physiologist Glenn Johnson and Personal Trainer Molly Sparkman, Eat, Drink, and Be Mindful is based on the book by Susan Albers, PsyD, who has done pioneering work in the prac- tice of eating mindfully
The 10-week workshop is Mondays, Jan. 24 through April 4 from 6-7 p.m. The $250 fee includes a copy of the Eat, Drink, and Be Mindful workbook. Space is limited. For more information or to sign up, call the Human Performance Lab at 503-517-7555 or email
