Every year, the club honors the year’s national and world champions, as well as a select group of MAC members who are inspirational and outstanding athletes, at the Banquet of Champions. Mel Fox Amateur Athlete of the Year Nominees
Mel Fox, former MAC athletic director and manager, was known by members for his dedication to sports. In honor of Fox, the following individuals, team, and trio have been nominated for the award: Carson Brindle, Aidan Daly-Jensen, Cameron McAlpine, Dylan Reid, women’s Level 10 gymnastics team, and 16-17 synchronized swimming trio.
Carson Brindle Swimming
Carson Brindle, a 15-year-old junior swim program member, set a new mark in the history of Multnomah Athletic Club: last summer at the junior national championships he swam 50 freestyle in 23.78, breaking the previous record of 24.00 set by John Keppeler in 1991. Keppeler was a member of the USA Swimming national team. Brindle’s performance officially made him the fastest MAC swimmer ever, as he recorded the 48th best performance in the history of USA Swimming among 15- to 16-year-old boys. He still has one more year in this age group to improve his rankings. Brindle is currently ranked No. 1 in the United States among 15-year-old swimmers, and seventh in the combined 15-16 age group. Joe Loprinzi Inspirational Award Nominees
Joe Loprinzi inspired those around him with his enthusiasm for fitness and his countless hours spent helping others. The former fitness instructor dedicated nearly 60 years to improving the lives of MAC members. The following individuals are nominated for the award due to their own inspirational commitment to MAC: Michele DesBrisay, Anne Lazar, Mike McDermott and Katie Renecker.
Michele DesBrisay Triathlon/Running
Michele DesBrisay leads a busy life with work and family.
Yet she makes time to include the MAC triathlon and running activities, workouts and races into her busy schedule. “This triathlete attends our workouts and the local triathlons and running races with a fun, positive attitude,” says member Coach Bridget Dawson. “Michele is inspiring to her MAC teammates in a number of ways,” she adds. DesBrisay participates in many team activities, such as group runs, pool workouts, track workouts, and Hagg Lake swims and bike rides. She is a regular participant at the MAC Indoor Triathlon every March, and she teamed up for the mile relay at the MAC Mile last May with her sons and her sister, Dawn. “Michele and Dawn didn’t care that they might slow down their male teammates; participation
and having fun was the goal,” says Dawson. DesBrisay is admired for her positive attitude. “She is consistently inspiring her teammates with congratulations and
