Pelham - Windham News 10 - December 23, 2010

submitted by Rhonda Bleeker The Rockingham Area Youth Swim (RAYS) team held its first home meet of the fall and winter season on November 17 with a dual meet against the Peterborough (Area) Swim Team (PST) at the Workout Club and Wellness Center in Salem. With nearly all of the young RAYS swimmers and many of the older RAYS swimmers in attendance at this meet, the growth of the team was evident, as the pool deck was brimming with RAYS swimmers. Scoring in individual events depended on how many swimmers were entered in a given race. In most cases, first through third places scored in individual events. The RAYS swimmers from Windham, Salem, and Pelham who placed in individual events at this meet were as follows by age and gender: 8 & U Girls: Abbie Patchen (Pelham), first in 25 Free Melina Fedele (Windham), second in 25 Free and 25 Back Amy Prendergast (Windham), second in 100 IM,

Gym-Ken’s Level 6 team Gymnastics Team Starts off Strong submitted by Michelle Perry Proudly wearing their pink ribbon breast cancer

awareness leotards, the gymnasts from A2 Gym and Cheer competed in their first-ever meet at Granite State Gymnastics Center on Halloween day! The Level 5 and 6 gymnasts did extremely well for their first meet and even managed to win a few awards! Since October was breast cancer awareness month, the girls showed their support by wearing their pink and black leotards. The gym also held several fundraisers to support breast cancer awareness and even donated to a local family affected by breast cancer. What a great

way to start the season! A2 Gym and Cheer, located in Pelham, opened its doors in July 2009. The team program began this past summer and has been growing steadily ever since! So far, the girls have traveled to two local meets, as well as a State Sectional Meet and even to the State Championship meet. Level 6 gymnast Dakota Cummings of Pelham qualified for the State Meet and went on to score a 34.40 all-around. Not bad for our rookie season! The girls are coached by Katey O’Brien and owner Paula Chausse.
