Neighbors Chandler neighbors help, meet each other

Residents in the San Marcos Estates Homeowners Association have a goal to become the “No. 1 neighborhood in Chandler.”

They’ve been organizing a variety of events, from clean-ups to picnics, and in the process have been getting to know each other better.

HOA President Bart Salzman is one of the organizers who says it’s paying off. “We’re all in this together, so let’s have some fun,” he says. “I’m tired of hearing folks say they don’t even know the neighbor next door. Let’s get back to people helping people.”

This past summer, the HOA started the “We Care” committee, and nine residents wearing colorful T-shirts volunteered to pull weeds, trim bushes and clean up yards for those needing help. Last month the homeowners association sponsored its fi rst annual “Fall Family Fun Day” and gave free hot dogs, organized numerous children’s and adult activities including hula hoops, volleyball, Frisbee, basketball and more. More than 150 neighbors were expected to attend. The San Marcos Estates is made up of 214 homes between Frye and Pecos roads.
