A full slate of late winter and spring arts performances around the Valley is on the agenda for the South East Valley Performing Arts League, members of which enjoy discounted tickets to many shows and optional luxury bus transportation to all events. PAL members will attend Phoenix Theatre’s production of “No Way to Treat a Lady” on Jan. 16, 2011. For tickets and transportation information, call Pat at 480-339-0283. Luxury bus transportation, with handicapped accommodation, is available for all events and leave from the Cottonwood fl agpole in Sun Lakes. Bus transportation for $20 is available to anyone who has already purchased tickets for any of the scheduled events. Membership to PAL costs $10 for a single and $15 for a household, and is open to anyone in the Sun Lakes community with an appreciation for the performing arts. MAC hosts variety of performers in February
An eclectic array of performances take the stage at Mesa Arts Center throughout the month of February.
Performances include “Menopause the Musical,” a parody of 25 classic baby-boomer hits rewritten to celebrate women surviving “the change,” Feb. 8 through 27 at MAC’s Piper Theater; Engelbert Humperdinck, the romantic international recording icon, Feb. 9 at MAC’s Ikeda Theater; Joshua Bell, the Grammy Award-winning violinist, Feb 11 at Ikeda Theater; Jazz at Lincoln Center with Wynton Marsalis, Feb. 17 at Ikeda Theater; and Imagination Movers, Disney’s Emmy Award-winning New Orleans-based rock band for kids, Feb. 25 at Ikeda Theater.

Book contest celebrates best in food writing
The Chocolate Dragonfl y Book Awards, sponsored by Chandler’s Five Star Publications, is now accepting entries for best food-related literature, both fi ction and nonfi ction.
Forty categories for book entries include cookbooks, diet and nutrition, food history, fi ctional books revolving around food, travel books focusing on food, dining guides and more. As with other Dragonfl y Book Awards contests, publication dates are not restricted,
as long as the books entered are still available for purchase.
Entries from around the globe are welcome, as long as they are submitted in English.
