Central and Eastern European electronics industry expands According to a Technology Forecasters Inc. report, the size of electronics production in the Central and Eastern European region is approximately US $85 billion and growing rapidly. Hungary is the largest electronics producer in the region at US $28.1 billion, being home to 8,100 electronics companies. Research for the report was conducted June through September 2010 in Europe, North America, and China.

Changes in the PCIM Europe conference board The PCIM Europe board of directors has a new chairman and two new members. After five years, chairman Dr. Alfred Rufer of École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne passed the torch to Dr. Leo Lorenz, of Infineon Technologies. The newly appointed board members are Dr. Eric Favre and Dr. Philippe Ladoux. Dr. Favre is employed as vice president of technology at the LEM group in Geneva. Dr. Ladoux teaches power electronics at the University of Toulouse.

Juki sells FX-3 XL chip shooter to Saline Lectronics Juki Corporation sold an FX-3 XL high- speed modular chip shooter to Saline Lectronics, Inc., the seventh system purchased by Saline Lectronics since 2008. Dave Trail, president of Horizon Sales and facilitator of the purchase, said, “No EMS supplier in Southeast Michigan has the capacity that Saline now has with the addition of this high-speed chip shooter.” Founded in 2002, Saline Lectronics is a PCB assembly house that provides the latest in through-hole technology (THT), SMT, BGA and microBGA capability, in addition to mixed-technology assemblies. The FX-3 XL provides an upgrade in speed for Saline Lectronics, from 15,000 cph to 60,000 cph.

Axis Electronics upgrades with MYDATA Two new MYDATA pick-and-place machines-an MY100DX14 and an MY100SX14-have been purchased by Axis Electronics. The machines will be used in combination as a Synergy production line, an arrangement that combines high throughput capability with exceptional flexibility. The new machines replace an older SMT line at Axis Electronics and are capable of working efficiently with a much wider range of components.
