Murals inspire Duet to new heights


as heavenly by many Italians, while the Indian mural was inspired by the his- tory of Indian food which the Moguls brought to the country nearly 500 years ago for its medicinal and nutri- tional properties.


Kafait says, “Food is much more than fuel; it can be a heavenly, nutri- tional and medicinal experience. Duet Cuisine incorporates the history and culture of both Italian and Indian food – and this is what I have expressed through the murals.”


Fort Dunlop’s Italian and Indian restau- rant Duet Cuisine, is wowing custom- ers not only with its food, but also with new wall murals by renowned local artist Kafait Hussein. The hand painted scenes take their inspiration from both Italy and India and were worked on through the night over a three month period by Kafait, so the restaurant,


located near Birmingham, could open as usual.


Originally from Karachi, Kafait moved to Britain in 1965 and was originally involved in painting promotional work for films and cinemas. For the Duet project, he says he got his inspiration from Italy’s love of food, which is seen


The restaurant is a favourite of many brummies who prefer the best of both worlds when dining out. Proprietor Abid Hussein explains, “Duet Cuisine is unique because we have two sepa- rate specialist teams of chefs – an Italian team and an Indian team. We pride ourselves on getting both the Italian and the Indian food to the table on time.”


Hell’s Kitchen winner denied UK visa


The Hell’s Kitchen US winner who was set to join the brigade at Gordon Ramsay’s Savoy Grill has been denied a UK working visa by the Home Office.


Californian single mother Holli Ugalde was due to complete a six-month place- ment at the former Michelin-starred restaurant, as the prize for winning the US version of the reality TV show this summer. She was all set to work under chef-patron Stuart Gillies and head chef Andy Cook at the Savoy, which has recently reopened after a major refur- bishment, but has instead been offered a cash prize as an alternative.
