Welcome to Cowes

Flying Fish UK is based in Cowes and we love it. Flying Fish has chosen the world’s best training locations – and for sailing the Isle of Wight is certainly one of them.

Our yachts are berthed at Shepard’s Wharf, with direct access to the Solent and the English Channel. The Solent is a broad stretch of sheltered water between the Isle of Wight and the mainland. It is the country’s busiest waterway, with a complex tidal regime which offers a navigational challenge to all who sail here.

Cowes has six yacht clubs and the most famous is the world’s oldest: the Royal Yacht Squadron. In August all six join forces to host the Cowes Week Regatta, one of the world’s most exciting events for the recreational sailor.

Accommodation ashore with Flying Fish is at Point Cottages, right beside the water with fine harbour views. These three properties are simply but comfortably furnished, with balconies, an enclosed courtyard and a riverside terrace.

Across the courtyard you’ll find the Flying Fish training rooms where we teach navigation theory, yacht maintenance and safety courses.

In the summer this is a very active town, with a busy calendar of sailing events. Out of season Cowes is quiet but the Island offers surfing, bike trails, horse riding and beautiful country walks. And all this is only two hours from London by train and passenger ferry.

Join Flying Fish for a sailing course in Cowes and we promise you an absolute adventure.
